INSPIRING ADAPTABILITY: VOL. 1

I have always been extremely passionate about experiencing different cultures but, this past year, my curiosity piqued as we entertained documenting how Europe is adapting to this new reality. The opportunity to see with my own eyes, and feel with my own heart, how the world is shifting was something I could not pass up. The preparation was exciting and the possibilities of how the journey would unfold were endless, but I never thought that within my first month I would get caught in two major lockdowns in London. No flights coming or going, everything shut down. To say that this experience has already changed me… is an understatement.

Here are the very first images to come out of my photographic journal through the lens of Leica.

In March of 2020, back in Los Angeles, when America first began to feel the effects of the pandemic confusion and panic set in but, at least for me, I had a sense of familiarity. I had my car, my friends, and the neighborly things that help keep someone grounded. In London 2021, while I have none of that, my suitcase and my camera have been more than enough to keep me going.

While the plan is still for me to move around different European cities, movement at the moment is restricted due to the recent outbreak here in London. Travel that used to be extremely easy has become inordinately challenging. In order to go from the UK to another country you are required to have a letter of invitation from the government, which you can imagine is not something that comes very easy.

In a way, the restriction has forced me to dive deeper into myself, my art, and my relationships. It has quickly made me value the little things in life and the people that matter most.

I hope you enjoy these images of London, currently an empty city, where the days are short, the sun rarely comes out, and the average temperature is 30 degrees.

Learning to adjust is what this whole project is about, Inspiring Adaptability.
