THE INFLUENCE OF ARCHITECTURE IN ART

I have always thought of architecture as an influence on the art world, a constant dialogue with one another. I shot these photographs of Kings Cross, a former distribution center for trains transporting coal, grain, and goods traveling from North England and East Anglia into central London in the 20th century. The items were then distributed throughout the city using the Regents canals as waterways. My objective with this work was to explore through sketching the relationship between both mediums while allowing each other to speak in their own language.

The parallels between architecture and art are so narrow, and the references to be drawn out of these works are exciting and crucial in shaping the future and how it will inform what we do.

These references are in the cities we live and visit and the artists that inhabit these places.

The exciting thing about it is; we design the spaces and, in return, the spaces design us back.

Perhaps it is my obsession with structures and the abstract artistic narratives they visually tell, or maybe it's all in my head. What I do know is this, I am you, and you are me, therefore as much as I would like to assume that Architecture influences Art, perhaps it is the other way around. Perhaps life is just a loop of information constantly feeding off of each other.
